Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Forensic Medicine Toxicology Summary: The Many genes affect behavior and aid in the detection of many psychiatric problems. MAOA gene (warrior gene) was one of the genes whose variants have been studied deeply due to its association with many delinquent behaviors. It is responsible for the coding of MAOA enzyme responsible for degradation of different neurotransmitters in the brain. This gene has two variants, one variant leading to expression of high amounts of MAOA enzyme while the other leads to expression of low amount. MAOA gene is an example of complex expression genes in which protein expression is affected by environmental factors. Child abuse is one of the factors which affect this gene expression so affect the future behavior of the abused child. Child abuse cases were studied regarding different aspects of injuries and perpetrators with special concern for the MAOA variants as risk factors between cases of child abuse
