Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Institute of African Research and Studies - Department of Natural Resources Summary: Soil development is a function of combination between the natural genesis and both environmental conditions and the human activities, in addition to its conditions are often modified by the existing the different applied soil water management practices. So, the current work was an attempt to identify the relation between soil water management practices through different periods of cultivation and the changes in soil physical, chemical, mineralogical and fertility characteristics. Such studies may be helpful for identifying the best soil water management practices to maximize the productivity of the different grown crops. The selected soil areas for this study represent scattered small farms spread on both the eastern (Elsalhia area) and western (Maryut area) portions of the Nile Delta, in addition to Elfayoum area at the Egyptian Western Desert. These soils were carefully chosen to represent, as possible, the different soil texture grades, CaCO3 contents, periods of land use (6 to 30 years), and irrigation water quality
