The research studies environmental rating systems for residential buildings in Egypt. First the research analyzed the current environmental situation and buildings impact on it, then a look at sustainability and green approaches.To reach guidelines for a better environmental performance for residential buildings, the research studies and analyzes the green building movement, buildings impact on the environment, different environmental rating systems and approaches that don{u2019}t affect the environment only, but also address economic and social aspects of communities.The research also studies the situation in Egypt, current buildings impact on the environment. Current local attempts to reach sustainable buildings, and governmental approach to reach a local environmental rating system
