Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of System and Biomedical Engineering Summary: Background: Dialysis removes nitrogenous (and other) waste products, and corrects the electrolyte, water, and acid-base abnormalities associated with renal failure. It is most desirable to using existing standards for haemodialysis devices, in order to achieve better quality assurance for these devices and their accessories. The purpose of quality assurance (QA) is to monitor and manage research and development and ensure its consistency with plans and standards. Quality is assured through a combination of audits and reviews to ensure that both intermediate and final work products meet project, company, and industry standards, and that the prescribed process steps and phase transition criteria are met. One of the most important components of quality assurance program is patient monitoring for any failure or malfunction occurs at the Haemodialysis devices. Haemofiltration is a similar treatment to haemodialysis, but it is based on a different principle in which the patient's blood is pumped through a dialyzer or `hemofilter` as in dialysis, but no dialysate is used. A pressure gradient is applied, and as a result water moves rapidly across the very permeable membrane, and salts and water lost from the blood during this process are replaced with a`substitution fluid` that is infused during treatment. Haemodiafiltration is the combination of haemodialysis and haemofiltration in one process. This technique offers the advantage of both hemodialysis and hemo- filtration
