Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Agricultural Biochemistry
The current study was conducted to investigate the hypoglycemic and hypolipdemic effects of chitosan (CH) and wheat germ (WG).The effects of chitosan (5%), wheat germ (10%) and the mixture of them (7.5%) were studied on alloxan diabetic and hyperlipidemic rats. The determined biochemical parameters were fasting serum glucose, lipid profile, kidney function, liver function, malondialdehyde and total antioxidant capacity. The obtained results revealed that serum glucose, malondialdehyde, lipid profile, liver function, kidney function were increased in diabetic and hyperlipidemic as compared with negative and positive control rats, on the other hands HDL cholesterol and total antioxidant capacity were decreased. Treatment with either chitosan or wheat germ or the mixture of both ameliorated the above mentioned parameters
