Salsola vermiculata L and salsola tetrandra forssk. were comparatively investigated. DNA fingerprinting was established to allow interspecies differentiation. Proximate analysis and nutritional evaluation were performed. Determination of carbohydrate, lipid, protein, vitamin (E, C and Ý- carotene) and macro - and micromineral contents revealed a moderate nutritive value of the aerial parts. Phytochemical examination of the ground aerial parts and roots, and their successive extractives allowed exploration of its constituents. The lipoidal composition was analyzed by GLC - FID after saponification. UPLC - MS and NMR metabolite profiling of the methanol extracts allowed the identification 32 compounds among which: isomeric hydroxycinnamic acid conjugates, flavonoids, unsaturated fatty acid derivatives and two nitrogenous compounds including a tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid. Quantification of total flavonoids and hydroxycinnamic acid conjugates revealed that the aerial parts were more enriched in flavonoids whereas hydroxycinnamic acid conjugates prevailed in roots
