Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: A new direct boundary element (BEM) technique is established to analyze plates on tension - less elastic foundation. Soil is modeled as Winkler foundation. The considered BEM is based on formulation of vander weeën for the shear deformable plate bending theory of reissner. The developed technique uses the PLPAK software to solve the plate bending problem and coupled with iterative process to eliminate tensile stresses in the underneath foundation. The applied loads are applied as a single increment. The tensile zones are redistributed until the real contact zone of plate is reached. The advantage of this technique is its simplicity which could be easily extended to include all other soil nonlinear effects. Several examples are tested and results are compared to analytical and previously published results to verify the proposed technique
