Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Orthodontics Summary: The purpose of this in - vitro study was to compare two different enamel surface treatments and their effect on enamel discoloration after brackets debonding. Human maxillary premolar teeth were selected free from any primary visual or color defects. Teeth mounted in acrylic resin blocks constructed by a special copper mold. Spectrophotometer was used to record teeth color before surface treatment. Teeth were divided into two groups, group (A) acid etched with phosphoric acid 37% for 20 seconds. Group (B) sandblasted with microetcher (cojet) with 30 um particle size then acid etched with phosphoric acid 37% for 20 seconds. Both groups were rinsed then dried. Bonding of brackets were made for both groups using bonding and composite resin left for 24 hours at 37 ̊C in distilled water. Debonding were made, surface inspected using stereomicroscope (10x). Groups further subdivided according to immersion solution (color, coffee, tea and mouth rinse) samples left in solution for 72 hours. Then AE measured using spectrophotometer. Furthermore, varnish was applied on ten samples (five from each group) before immersion in the solution. PH of each immersion solution was measured by PH meter
