Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Orthodontics Summary: The present study was done to evaluate the influential level of upper anterior teeth length variation on the perception of esthetics and to find out whether this perception was affected by occupation, age, gender or marital status of the raters. 10 male and 10 female photos were captured, cropped and rated to select the most attractive male and female photo. Five views were constructed for each image with variable lengths of the upper anterior teeth; those 10 views were judged by 10 orthodontists, 10 laypersons and 10 dentist judges to select the most attractive male and female image. No significant difference was found between the mean scores of female and male raters and of the adult and young group raters concerning all images. The occupation, age, gender and marital status of the raters played no role in the perception of smile attractiveness, The view with all the anterior teeth at the same level was the most preferred view among the female images, while the view with the laterals shorter than canines and centrals by 0.5 mm was the most preferred for the male images
