The effect of polyester chemical structures on the mechanical, chemical and weathering properties of saturated polyester / amino resins and saturated polyester /polyisocyanate coatings was studied. Nine different polyester resins were synthesized; five types were synthesized using different dibasic acid monomers; (I) adipic acid, (II) phthalic anhydride, (III) 3,4,5,6- tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, (IV) isophthalic acid and (V) terephthalic acid and four types were synthesized using different diols; (VI) 2,2-dimethyl-1, 3- propanediol, (VII) 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, (VIII) 1,6-hexanediol and (IX) 2- butyl-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR) were used qualitatively and quantitatively to elucidate the structure of the prepared polyester resins
