Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Botany Physiology
The present investigation was carried out to assess the impact of chilling stress on P. vulgaris plants and to do an attempt to alleviate this harmful effect through foliar spraying with salicylic acid, ascorbic acid and spermine. Several parameters were evaluated including growth criteria, changes in protein pattern, phytohormones, enzymatic and non - enzymatic antioxidant defense system, osmolytes and membrane stability. The deleterious effect of chilling was mitigated with different extents by these treatments. The bene{uFB01}cial effect of treatments was manifested in terms of enhanced growth and photosynthesis, antioxidant enzymes and osmolytes level in addition to enhancing the - antioxidant scavenging power and inhibition of DNA damage
