Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Design and Production Summary: The force measurement capability in Egypt is up to 5 MN, this range is achieved using three force standard machines at the National Institute for Standards, (NIS). The aim of this work is to extend this range up to 10 MN using a 10 MN Force Standard Machine (FSM). The machine uses the build-up principle to achieve the required capacity. The build-up system consists of three identical force transducers arranged mechanically in such a way each force transducer carry one-third of the load acting on the system. The build-up system has advantage of small size, capable of measuring high forces, taking the traceability from smaller capacity force standard machines. The machine uses a hydraulic system to generate the force. The machine loading frame was designed to be rigid and safe enough. Some experimental studies have been carried out using two build-up system prototypes to study the metrological characteristics of the build-up system technique
