This study aimed to develop transfersomes entrapping Indocyanine green (ICG) and formulation in hydrogel form to enhance ICG dark- and- photostability as well as improving its topical delivery as photodynamic sensitizer. Four transfersomal preparations entrapping ICG either in the lipid membrane or the aqueous core (in absence or presence of cholesterol) were formulated. All Formulations were studied for some pharmaceutical properties and for ICG dark- and- photostability. Furthermore, the best transfersomal ICG was formulated in topical hydrogel and studied for in vivo topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) on animal skin and evaluated clinically for PDT of acne vulgaris
