The aim of our study is to detect the prevalence of congenital heart diseases in governmental hospitals in North Cairo. This study was conducted over a year interval from March 2012 to March 2013 in the governmental hospitals in North Cairo; it included 9162 live births who born in these hospitals during this period. In our study 92 cases were diagnosed as CHD and were born in these hospitals during this period. Diagnosis of the patients was based on careful history taking, detailed clinical examinations and specific investigations. CHD represented as 1.01% (10 per 1000 live births), the most common CHD was VSD represented as 34.78%. Critical cases were 20 and represented as 21.73%, there were associated syndromes in 2 cases (Down syndrome and Noonan syndrome) representing 1.08% for each. Regarding maternal age was > 40 years in 39.13% of CHD cases, and < 40 years in 60.86%, maternal disease was found in 2 cases (Diabetes and hypertension) represented as 1.08% for each, maternal fever recorded in 2 cases (2.17%), maternal medications recorded in 3 cases representing 3.26% out of 92 CHD cases
