Its diagnosis requires quantitative culture on standard media, only 20%-30% of urine sample result in significant growth. Chromogenic media for UTI offer another option for diagnostic laboratories. This study evaluated the chromogenic medium CPS as a new medium for diagnosis of UTI by comparing with CLED and conventional biochemical reaction and API 20E for Enterobacteriaceae. Fifty samples of urine with {u2265}100 pus cells /HPF were examined from patients with UTI from Urology department. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of CPS were 93.5%, 100%, 100% and 57.1% respectively and total agreement was 94%
