Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Soil Sciences Summary: Microirrigation systems have been widely used around the world for crop production. However, the main disadvantage of microirrigation is emitter clogging, especially when using canal water with suspended particles. In order to alleviate this problem, filters are introduced to reduce the suspended soil particles, which cause emitter clogging, and the clogging of six different type of emitters of local made and imported type were examined by developing the setup of laboratory drip irrigation to examination the clogging of each types of emitters. Three types of filters are used in this study, screen filter, disc filter, and media filter. The filters capabilities to remove the suspended soil particles (removal efficiency) were calculated. It is found that the removal efficiency of the filters mainly depends on the concentration of the suspended soil particles in irrigation water
