Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Power Engineering Summary: The energy resources are at this moment the biggest challenge and problem facing the whole world. Furthermore, the need for off grid systems is now continuously increasing in the world, especially of course places far away from national electrical grids. In Egypt, it is now top urgently required for sustainable development in touristic, industrial and residential sectors in deserts and locations away from the electrical grid, due to the fact that we are only living on 5% of the total Egypt land area. In other words, it has become now a matter of future or no future. PV- diesel hybrid power system is the optimum - solving key for that goal. Egypt has one of the best solar energy potential in the whole world; we have the sun during the whole year. Diesel generators will help supplying the load during times with no solar power. This perfect mix of energy sources will ensure a sustainable development in all various economic fields in Egypt: touristic, industrial, residential and agriculture. This will achieve the brightest future that will certainly happen despite of all the challenges
