The present study aimed to assess the alterations in oxidative status of bladder cancer patients comparable to control group, and correlate these changes with the severity; grade and stage of the disease. Plasma levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), selenium (Se); zinc (Zn); copper (Cu) and vitamin A were estimated. Blood reduced glutathione (GSH) and erythrocyte copper and zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn SOD) were also measured. The change in these parameters was correlated with the severity; grade; stage of the disease and schistosomal infection. The plasma levels of Se; Zn and vitamins A as well as whole blood levels of reduced GSH and erythrocyte Cu-Zn SOD activity of patients were significantly lower than in control. While, serum levels of MDA and Cu showed a significant elevation in patients as compared to the control. There were no significant differences between the patients regarding tumor types; stage and grade of tumors for all the measured biochemical parameters
