Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: This study was done to explore the association between incidence of allergy and nephrotic syndrome with an attempt at answering the question, whether exclusive breast feeding may offer protection against this disease or not. The study included 2 groups: 80 children (cases) who had nephrotic syndrome (INS) and 80 healthy children (controls) in the same age group as cases. It is showed significant incidence of positive family history of allergy (p value 0.015) in cases versus controls, while exclusive breastfeeding for 1st 6 months was more significant in controls (p value 0.025). Bronchial asthma, allergic conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and food allergy all were more frequent among cases versus controls (non significant value). These results indicate positive association between the family history of allergy and incidence of nephrotic syndrome as well as the protective role of exclusive breastfeeding for 1st 6 months against nephrotic syndrome INS
