Dissertation note: Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: Ecocriticism is a relatively new critical approach that was inspired by recent environmental worries about the effect of human beings on planet Earth and its other non-human inhabitants.Though the beginnings of environmental awareness go back to the seventies of the twentieth century, Ecocritisicm failed to gather momentum until the nineties. One of the focus points of Ecocriticism is the interactive relationship between nature and culture and its products like movies, paintings and literature. This thesis will introduce Ecocriticism exploring its potentials as a school of literary criticism. Then, this study will use the Ecocritical approach to analyze the representation of the Egyptian deserts in three selected novels: The English Patient (1992) by Michael Ondatjee, The Map of Love (1999) by Ahdaf Soueif, and Fasaad Al-Amkinah (1973) (translated as Seeds of Corruption in 1980) by Sabri Moussa
