Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
Cancer is a disease of complex etiology and its treatment requires combinations of drugs which can act simultaneously on different targets. Therefore, development of multi - functional and multi-targeting chemotherapeutic agents is an alternative to drug combination protocols. Tamoxifen, (TAM) a selective estrogen receptor modulator, is widely used for treatment and prevention of breast cancer. 3-Bromopyruvate (3 - BP) is a glycolytic inhibitor with impressive antitumor effects on several models of animal tumors and cell lines. The aim of the present study was to investigate the combined antitumor effect of TAM and 3-BP in vitro using MCF-7 and T47D cell lines and in vivo using ehrlich ascites carcinoma. In addition, the current study aimed at exploring the type and mechanism of their interaction via assessment of apoptosis, angiogenesis and metastatic markers
