Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Community Medicine Summary: The aim of this work is to assess the quality of exclusive breast-feeding promotion activities including education and counseling (prenatal, natal, postnatal) in primary health care facilities in Egypt.Results The current study found that applying the guideline of 10 steps initiative baby friendly hospital in the PHC center in Egypt could raise the prevalence of initiation and exclusive breastfeeding practice among beneficiaries. In addition, involving the family members in the awareness campaigns will have an effective impact on advocating and supporting exclusive breastfeeding practices. Mothers and mothers -in- low are the most important family members to be involved in the campaigns. Moreover, it is essential to use the media to raise the awareness and to broadcast health message about exclusive breastfeeding.
