Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Animal Production Summary: The aim of the current study is to determine the relationship between age, birth weight and parity with hormones [Insulin like growth factor 1(IGF-1), leptin, Triiodothyronine (T3) Thyroxine (T4) and cortisol], blood metabolites (glucose, total lipids, triglycerides, cholesterol, total protein and IgG), blood minerals and IGF-1 gene as indicators for growth performance in Egyptian buffalo calves. The study was conducted on 24 calves raised from birth to 120 day of age. Animals' body weight was recorded and length and height were measured at birth and afterwards biweekly. Blood samples were collected at birth and then monthly up to 120 days. The results showed a positive relationship between age and growth performance measurement (p<0.05). Similar trend was found for IGF-1 and cholesterol with age, while there was a negative relationship between age and thyroid hormones, glucose, total lipids and IgG and there wasn{u2019}t a clear effect of age on leptin, cortisol, triglycerides and total protein (p<0.05)
