Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: Background: Acute viral bronchiolitis is one of the most frequent causes of hospitalization in infants worldwide. Respiratory syncytial virus is well recognized as the most important pathogen causing acute respiratory disease in infants and young children mainly in the form of bronchiolitis. Other viruses that can cause acute bronchiolitis are: Adenovirus, human Metapneumovirus, Influenza virus type A, Influenza virus type B, Parainfluenza viruses type 1 and type 3, Coronaviruses and others. Objectives: The present study was done to detect the prevalence of Respiratory syncytial virus, Influenza A virus, Influenza B virus, Parainfluenza 1 virus, Parainfluenza 3 virus, Adenovirus and human Metapneumovirus.
