Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering Summary: The conversion of biomass into alternative fuel has become one of the attracting sources of renewable energy. The thermo-chemical conversion 2fast pyrolysis3 is considered a promising route for converting biomass into bio-oil that can be used as an alternative fuel oil. One of the most obvious environmental problems in Egypt is the open burning of rice straw. Thus, the present work has used rice straw as the biomass source for applying the fast pyrolysis process because of its availability in Egypt and in order to overcome the excessive polluted emissions which result annually from burning rice straw. A mathematical model has been solved by coupling the chemical kinetic equations with the heat transfer equation, and improved to calculate the concentrations of the resulted products and getting the produced amounts of bio-oil, gases and char from the proposed industrial plant based on the entered feed of biomass through two scenarios for pyrolysis temperature; 500{u00B0}C & 600{u00B0}C. Eventually, the economic study has shown good income from the proposed industrial plant for the fast pyrolysis of biomass using different plants{u2019} capacities of rice straw range from 10 to 500 ton/day
