Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacognosy Summary: Four Annona species (Annona cherimola Mill., A. glabra Linn., A. muricata Linn. and A. squamosa Linn.) belonging to the family annonaceae and cultivated in Egypt were choen for this study. This work includes: DNA fingerprinting of the four species, Botanical study (macromorphology and micromorphology) of the leaves and stems of the four species, Preliminary phytochemical screening and proximate analysis of the leaves of the four species, Biological study of the four species including pharmacological activity of the ethanolic extract of the leaves (invitro antioxidant activity, toxicological studies, acute anti - inflammatory, antihyperglycaemic, antioxidant and anticovulsant activities), antimicrobial activity of the essential oils and ethanolic extracts of the leaves and cytotoxic activity of the essential oils, petroleum ether, ethanolic and aqueous extracts of the leaves against colon, breast and liver tumor cell lines
