Bassia scoparia (wight) A. J. Scott is an important ornamental plant. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the potential use of B. scoparia and its associated rhizosphere microorganisms for bioremediation of soils polluted with crude petroleum oil. Also, to isolate and identity some of the indigenous fungal, actinomycetes and bacterial flora from oil-polluted soils and evaluate the biodegradation efficiencies of the potent oil-degrading isolates. Based on the results, Bassia scoparia is a promising tool for bioremediation of soils polluted with petroleum hydrocarbons and associated sulfur pollution at levels ranging up to about 3%. After five months of phytoremediation, the average degradation rate of petroleum hydrocarbons reach 57.7±12.90% for natural soil and 51.1±14.17% for pre-sterilized soil. This phytoremediation process significantly reduced the toxicity of the high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
