Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Histology Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) induces distant organ injury affecting all organ systems which is most clinically manifested in the liver and intestines. This work aimed at studying the effect of AKI on the liver and small intestine and the application of stem cell therapy in AKI. In liver AKI induced vacuolation of hepatocytes and congested vessels at the portal area. In small intestine inflammatory cells infiltration and vacuolated epithelial cells were detected. These changes were ameliorated after stem cells administration. We can conclude that stem cell therapy could have a therapeutic effect against AKI-induced distant organ effects
