Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: The New Delhi metallo - beta - lactamase (NDM - 1) is a novel type of MBL and is one of the emerging new antibiotic resistance mechanisms resulting in multi - drug resistant (MDR) bacteria specially to carbapenems which are often used as one of the last resorts in the treatment of severe infections. The aim of this study was to detect New delhi metallo - Ý - lactamase gene NDM - 1 (blaNDM - 1) gene by TaqMan probe Real time PCR in 100 clinical isolates of gram negative microorganisms from different clinical samples showing reduced susceptibility to imipenem (IMP); and meropenem (MER); by disk diffusion and this was confirmed by E - test to measure MICs. All the 100 clinical isolate were then tested by E - test MBL IP/IPI strip (AB bioMe{u00B4}rieux,, solna, sweden) for detection of Metallo B - lactamases (MBL). Out of the 100 isolates 24 cases were found to be positive for blaNDM1 gene by real time PCR
