Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of General Surgery Summary: Non healing ulcers and the resulting potential amputations present signi{uFB01}cant costs to the health care system and reduce patient quality of life. The goal of chronic ulcer treatment is to obtain wound closure as expeditiously as possible. The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to enhance wound healing has increased dramatically over the last decade. However, controversies exist in the literature regarding the added bene{uFB01}t of this procedure. The aim of this study is to investigate the ef{uFB01}ciency of platelet releasate on the healing of chronic ulcers. This study included 10 patients with chronic ulcers. The results showed that healing with the use of PRP was signi{uFB01}cantly faster. Suggesting that topical application of PRP is more effective than standard therapy in helping a chronic ulcer to heal
