Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences - Department of Laser Applications in Engineering
Because of their wavelengths' emitting at 2.94 æm, very high absorption by water, Er - YAG lasers offer some very promising solutions for a broad range of medical applications such as: ophthalmic microsurgery surgical scalpel laser perforator cataract surgery these lasers enable "cold ablation" of biological material while minimizing heat deposition in the surrounding tissues. cold ablation applies also to tissues with very low water content, such as tooth enamel, making Er-YAG topic of interest in dental area the component of the system and design of each part of it have discussed. as a module of solid state laser system rod, Pumping source xenon flash lamp, homemade power supply, pulse forming network, triggering circuit ,all the component from the local markets cavity which has many shape circular, elliptical ,diffused cavity plane parallel resonator has been used with two plane parallel mirrors reflecting ER:YAG wavelength 2942 nm with 80% and the dielectric with 100% mirrors, the mirror mounts had the stability to achieve good alignment to the system all the component collected and fabricated energy sufficient to many applications obtained from the system
