Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Orthopedic Surgery
Management of Blount{u201F}s disease is always challenging. Early diagnosis and aggressive management is recommended in stages I to III. Otherwise complex deformities centered at the epiphysis will occur with resultant depression of the medial tibial plateau. There have been concerns about the recurrence of deformity after treatment as well as progression of early degenerative changes, complications such as compartmental syndromes, nerve injuries, skin sloughing. Treatment should be individualized according to the analysis of the deformity components. Elevation of the medial tibial plateau combined with other procedures as metaphyseal valgus derotation osteotomies can address each aspect of the deformity. Elevation of the medial tibial plateau offers a safe technique targeted at the site of deformity aiming at restoration of the joint line
