Neural tube defects, the commonest CNS congenital anomalies. The main method of prenatal screening for NTDS was done by measuring maternal serum AFP and ultrasound screening at the second trimester. Recently, effective first trimester screening for NTDS by measuring of intracranial translucency and alpha fetoprotein can done. Prospective study over 200 cases proven that the 1st trimester screening of NTDS by AFP and ultrasound is reliable
