Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Ornamental Horticulture Summary: This experiment was carried out during two successive seasons 2012 and 2013 at the laboratory of ornamental horticulture department, Faculty of agriculture, Cairo university, to investigate the effect of different pulsing and holding solutions treatments and their interactions on keeping quality of fatsia japonica and rumohra adiantiformis cut foliages. The pulsing treatments were: distilled water (DW), benzyladenine (BA) 10 mg/l, citric acid (CA) 200 mg/l and clorox (NaOCl) 2 ml / l. After the pulsing, foliages of fatsia japonica and rumohra adiantiformis were stored in polyethylene bags for 6 days in darkness at 4{u00B0}C and then transferred to 23 - 25{u00B0}C where their vase life was compared with those of freshly foliages under room temperature (23 - 25{u00B0}C). The holding treatments were (DW, sucrose 20 g / l + BA 10 mg/l citric acid 200 mg / l + clorox 2NaOCl3 2 ml/l and Ca EDTA 1 g/l + sucrose 20 g / l). The obtained results showed that pulsing solutions with benzyladenine (BA) and citric acid (CA) were most effective treatments in increasing vase life, general appearance, fresh weight, water uptake, water loss, water balance, and leaves content of chlorophyll a and b and total carbohydrates in both non stored and stored cut foliages compared to distilled water (control); however cold storage decreased longevity, general appearance and leaves content of chlorophyll a and b in cut foliage of F. japonica compared to room temperature conditions
