Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Agricultural Biochemistry Summary: The main objective of this study is to obtain information about the effect of cellulase enzyme by two different concentrations 0.1g / L and 0.5g / L, and chitosan by two different concentrations 0.5g / L and 1.0g / L with chemical modification treatment such as mercerization by sodium hydroxide solution at concentration 20% (w/w) and dyeing process with direct dye (green dye), on physical, mechanical, chemical properties and antimicrobial activity for three varieties Egyptian cotton fabrics and blended fabric. Three varieties from the Egyptian cotton were involved in this study named; I- extra - long staple varieties namely: 2Giza703. II- long staple varieties namely: 2Giza80 and Giza903. III- blended variety 2Giza70 and Polyester (ratio of 65% and 35%). The results obtained could be summarized as follows: 1- cellulase enzyme caused an increase in shrinkage in length%, loss weight%, whiteness index, fabric elongation%, moisture regain%, accessibility% and color strength (K/S). While, it caused a decrease in yellowness index, fabric strength, stiffness, cellulose crystallinity% and degree of polymerization (D.P). 2- mercerization process caused a high increase in shrinkage in length%, loss weight%, yellowness index, fabric elongation%, moisture regain%, accessibility% and {u2206}E values. On the other hand, it caused a high decrease in whiteness index, fabric strength, stiffness, cellulose crystallinity% and degree of polymerization D.P
