Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electronics and Communications Summary: Botnets become the most dangerous threats on the Internet. A botnet is a collection of compromised hosts (bots). They are remotely controlled by an attacker (the botmaster) via a command and control (C&C) channel. Bots serve as a proxy infrastructure and a launch base for a wide variety of cybercrimes such as sending SPAM emails and launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS). In this thesis, we dealt with botnet phenomenon in different aspects: analysis, modeling, and detection. Firstly, we performed deep analysis for various botnet families using several analysis approaches (static, dynamic and network)
