Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Geology Summary: The relation between the population growth in Syria and water resources is considered as important definition of development. The study area is located in the southwestern part of Upper Orontes basin between latitude 340 27' and 340 40' 11" N, and longitudes 360 24'and 360 34' E. The Neogene aquifer succession is composed of, from younger to older, alluvium and basalt sediments, respectively. The objective of this research is to define and evaluate the hydrogeological, and hydrogeochemical characteristics of the Neogene aquifer in the southwestern part of Upper Orontes basin. The project spotlight on the nature and potentiality of surface water (Ain Altnour spring, Zita Dam, and Orontes River) and future discharge of Orontes River to 2030' period
