Part I: That includes introduction to biomarkers and general introduction to phospholipids and esterified fatty acids besides an introduction to the viral diseases under investigation. Part II: This part includes profiling of serum phospholipids and quantitative analysis of major phospholipids as differentiating biomarkers of three common viral infections diseases including hepatitis B, hepatitis C and dengue fever. This part is divided into two sections. In the first section phospholipids were comprehensively characterized in human serum by liquid chromatography coupled with ion trap mass spectrometry detectors. Fifty two phospholipids were characterized in human serum
