Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Endodontics Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare between two recently introduced rotary instruments: The single file reciprocating system WaveOne, and the simplified version of the popular BioRaCe the iRaCe regarding: Part I: Shaping ability by evaluating the change in canal curvature, transportation, and centering ability using cone beam computed tomography. Part II: Cleanliness of root canal walls in terms of residual debris and smear layer using the image analysis and scanning electron microscope. Part I: The mesiobuccal canals of forty freshly extracted human first and second mandibular permanent molars were selected with curvature range between 25 and 35 degrees as determined by using the cone beam computed tomography. The forty roots were randomly divided into four groups. Each ten roots were embedded in a plastic tray filled with the rubber base at the same level and equidistant from each other, with the mesiobuccal canals externally (buccally) positioned. The four trays were classified into two main groups according to the file system used in their preparation. Group I: Trays number 1 & 2; canals were instrumented with WaveOne NiTi rotary files
