Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Design and Production
The thesis objects are to present reliability calculation method as computer software that calculates the reliability of any system with any number of parallel and serial components. This method applied to reliability-based approach to select appropriate wind turbine types for a wind farm considering site-specific wind speed patterns. In different locations in Egypt with the wind speed registration of one year are studied in this research. An analytic approach based on total probability theorem is utilized in this research to model the probabilistic behavior of both turbine's availability and wind speed. The most appropriate turbine type achieving the highest reliability and availability levels could be chosen for any specific wind farm
