Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) continues to be a major cause of cancer related mortality and morbidity worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate serum levels of angiopoietin 2 (Ang 2) and liver type arginase (ARG I) in cirrhotic patients and patients with HCC on top of cirrhosis to investigate their diagnostic performance in comparison with traditional AFP biomarker. In addition, assessing the performance of their combined tests with each other and with AFP regarding HCC diagnosis. In conclusion, Ang 2 level is a candidate serum biomarker for HCC screening and its simultaneous measurement with other biomarkers such as AFP, may improve the diagnosis of HCC in cirrhotic patients
