Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Zoology Summary: The present study was designed to evaluate and compare between the ecotoxicological effects of Zn (BPs and NPs) on Nile tilapia; oreochromis niloticus. The 1/2 LC₅₀ 96hr of ZnBPs (0.68 g/l) and ZnNPs (0.09g / l) was selected for 7, 14 and 28 days. TEM images showed diamiteres (520nm) in case of ZnBPs and (17.5 - 26nm) in case of ZnNPs. The average hydrodynamic size (149.5 and 181.3nm) and ZP ( - 4.09and - 13.8 mV) . While K, HSI, liver water content, RBCs, Hb, Hct, serum total lipids, total protein and globulin contents showed a significant decrease, MCV, MHC, MHCH, serum glucose, albumin, as well as activities of AST, ALT, and ALP, serum creatinine and uric acid showed significant increase. While there were an increase in the liver and gills GPx, CAT, SOD activities and MDA level, there were decrease in the liver and gills GSH level. While muscle water content and ash increased, total proteins and total lipids decreased. Bioaccumulation, in case of ZnBPs was K > G > L > S > M ,but in case of ZnNPs were K > L > G > S > M. (HI >1) in fish skin for subsistence fish eaters after 7th and14th days. Alternations and clear damages were showed in liver, kidney and gills. ZnNPs had stronger toxicity than that of the ZnBPs, and the toxicity was time- dependant
