Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Department of Zoonoses Summary: This work was carried out to study the occurrence of salmonella infections in chicken in different poultry shops and farms in Egypt. A total of 619 chicken samples including 349 chicken meat samples and 270 chicken cloacal swaps and 9 water samples collected from water tanks during slaughtering process. Also 394 egg samples collected from different localities in addition to 230 human stool specimens were collected. All samples were subjected to laboratory examination under a septic conditions for bacteriological examination which revealed that 14 (4.01%) chicken meat samples, 8 (2.96%) chicken cloacal swaps, 2 (22.2%) water samples, 2 (0.5%) egg samples and 6 human stool specimens (2.6%) were positive for Salmonella species and the isolates which preliminary identified biochemically as salmonella bacteria were subjected to serological identification [ (Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Infantis, Salmonella Kentucky, Salmonella Montevideo, Salmonella Poona, Salmonella Rubislaw, , Salmonella Typhi, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Salmonella Virginia) in chicken meat samples (Salmonella Haifa and Salmonella pullorum) in chicken cloacal swaps (Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium) in egg samples and (Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Haifa, Salmonella Kentucky, Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Virchow) in human stoolspecimens]
