Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Orthopedic Surgery Summary: The most common fractures of the upper extremity, fractures of the distal radius represent approximately one - sixth of all fractures treated in emergency, falling on out stretched hand is the most common mode of trauma, Frykman classification was used to classify patients in this study, malunion is the most common complication that should be avoided .There are multiple modalities of treatment including casting, percutaneous pinning, external fixation, fixation by plate and screws and combined methods. In this study twenty cases with intra-articular fracture distal radius were managed over the past year, twelve males and eight females with age ranging from 20 to 55 years with a mean 36.15 years. Only one surgical approach was used in this study; which is volar approach open reduction internal fixation by volar distal radius locked plate
