In our work 50 patients undergoing phacoemulsification cataract surgery were assessed using AS - OCT for the epithelial thickness. They were divided into 2 groups, 25 each. Group A: made up of 25 diabetic patients, and Group B: made up of 25 Non diabetic patients. Both groups had serial AS - OCT measurements done at 1st day, 1st week, 1st month, 3rd month postoperatively. There was no significant difference in both groups regarding the preoperative corneal epithelial thickness. Both groups measurements significantly increased first day postoperatively, then significantly decreased 1 week postoperatively. Both groups had returned to normal baseline values by the first postoperative month, and stayed at these levels at the third month postoperatively
