Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Orthopedic Surgery
Metatarsal fractures are common injuries of the foot frequently seen in emergency departments. Fifth metatarsal is the commonest one in relation to other metatarsals. Classifications of these fractures are based upon anatomical region, patient history and radiological findings. Depending on these classifications and patient activity level, treatment can be conservative or operative. Most types of fractures of the five metatarsals have a favourable prognosis and can be treated conservatively, there has been rising concern to treat this injury operatively due to complications with conservative management. A complete clinical and radiological (x - ray / C.T / U.S) assessment is required to select the best treatment option
