Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Physical Therapy for Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Purpose: to assess the effect of Acupuncture on pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy. Forty pregnant women were diagnosed as pelvic girdle pain were selected randomly and divided into two equal groups each group contained 20 pregnant women. Their ages ranged from 20-35 , their gestational ages ranged from 13-24 weeks and BMI from 25-30 kg/ m2. The study group received acupuncture in addition to stabilizing exercises while control group received only stabilizing exercises. Patients in both groups were assessed using present pain intensity scale (PPI) and Oswestry disability index to asses pain intensity and disability. The results of this study showed a highly significant (p=0.001) decrease in pain intensity and disability in the study group while there was a significant decrease (p=0.001) in pain intensity and disability in the control group who received only stabilizing exercises. It was concluded that acupuncture was an effective method in relieving pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy
