Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: The current research work experimentally investigate an innovative shear walls coupling for enhancement of seismic performance of reinforced concrete structures. The new proposed technique links plane, relatively distant, shear walls with a top roof beam constituting framed shear walls. An experimental investigation is carried out for five 1 / 5 scale models according to similitude laws. A numerical analysis of the test specimens was carried out using. The applied element method (AEM) through the extreme loading of structures (ELS) version 3.1 software. Both the experimental and analytical results showed reasonable enhancement in strength of coupled shear walls using the proposed technique. The investigation was carried out for a twelve floor reinforced concrete structure under the action of earthquake loading. The investigated structure had a flat slab column construction system with four shear walls as the main lateral load resisting system. Each pair of aligned walls were connected at their top by a stiff beam
