Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of Computer and Information Science
Generally, users often have vague or imprecise criteria when searching databases. Unfortunately, such imprecise criteria can{u2019}t be represented using traditional structured query language SQL. On the other hand, the user searching criteria may depend on the current state of the database which is not supported in traditional SQL. This thesis presents a flexible fuzzy-based approach for human-like querying of relational databases. Such an approach supports queries that can use both of stationary and non-stationary fuzzy terms. A stationary fuzzy term has a fixed definition. On the other hand, a non-stationary fuzzy term has a dynamic definition reflecting changes in the current database state or in the user profile. Also, traditional join between database relations represents one of the most important features of relational database model. Unfortunately there are some queries that are based on imprecise joining conditions which can{u2019}t be represented using traditional joining in relational databases. So the proposed fuzzy query approach handles such problems by allowing fuzzy join between database relations. Also, the proposed fuzzy query approach supports many other query structures like nested, complex and correlated fuzzy queries
