Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Analytical Chemistry Summary: In this study, a comparison between modified and in situ screen printed (SPE), carbon paste (CPE) and PVC electrodes was described for determination of moxifloxacin hydrochloride in pure and pharmaceutical formulations. The electrode reveals linear response over wide concentration range of 1.0 {u00D7}10 - 6 - 1.0 {u00D7} 10 - 2 mol L - 1 of MOXHC at 25 oC with a monovalent cationic slope. It was found that the best slopes were 57.2 ± 2.6, 59.2 ± 4.6 and 57.7 ± 2.7 mV decade -1 for IPVC electrodes modified with 7.5 mg NaTPB, 7.5 mg PMA and 7.5 mg PTA, respectively, and 58.6 ± 1.7, 60.0 ± 2.0 and 59.0 ± 3.3 mV decade 1 for ISPE modified with 22 mg NaTPB, 16 mg RN and 30 mg PTA, respectively, but it was 60 ± 2.3 mV decade - 1 for ICPE modified with 10 mg NaTPB and for modified CPE the best ion pair was MOXH - TPB with highest slope value of 58.2 ± 3.4 mV decade 1, While other IPs gave calibration graphs with lower slope values. All electrodes were characterized and optimized with respect to the main experimental parameters affecting the electrode performance, including composition, pH, temperature, response time and showed good selectivity for moxifloxacin hydrochloride (MOXHC) with respect to some inorganic cations, sugars and glycine. The developed electrodes have been used successfully for the determination of moxifloxacin hydrochloride in pharmaceutical preparation using standard addition and calibration methods. The obtained results were in good agreement with those obtained using the official method
